Lauren Johnson-Naumann was born in 1959 in Illinois. She attended Oakton Community College and the University of Chicago, both in the Chicago area. She graduated with a degree in political science in 1981.

Lauren Johnson-Naumann then attended Washington University in St Louis School of Law and graduated in 1986. Lauren Johnson-Naumann was a member of the law review and was a founding member of the school’s International Law Society and served as President.

Later, Lauren Johnson-Naumann attended Temple University Beasley School of Law, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, obtaining a Masters in Law in Trial Advocacy. She graduated with honors in 2001. She has also completed Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College and Air War College.

Upon graduation from law school, Lauren Johnson-Naumann entered the United States Air Force as a Judge Advocate. She served for almost 22 years and retired in 2008 as a Lieutenant Colonel.

As a Judge Advocate, Lauren Johnson-Naumann served at all levels of command from squadron/wing level to Air Staff. Although she worked in a variety of areas including contracts and communication law, the majority of her work was in military justice and criminal law. She served as the Chief of Military Justice at wing, numbered air force and major command level.

Early in her career, Lauren Johnson-Naumann served as an Area Defense Counsel at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska. Then in 2000 she served as the Deputy Chief Trial Defense Division for the Air Force serving as the number two top defense counsel for the Air Force. As Deputy Chief, she defended senior officers, including Colonels, General Officers and two senior Judge Advocates.

Lauren Johnson-Naumann culminated her career by serving as the Deputy Staff Judge Advocate for the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI). In that position, she advised felony investigators around the world on criminal law, including search and seizure law, Fifth Amendment rules and court-martial discovery law. Lauren Johnson-Naumann also advised the Internal Affairs Division of the Inspector General’s Office and the Commander, Air Force Office of Special Investigations on allegations of misconduct by AFOSI agents and agent decertification and decredentialing decisions.

Lauren Johnson-Naumann has received the following major military awards:

Meritorious Service Medal with five oak leaf clusters
Air Force Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters
Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal
Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal
Global War on Terrorism Service Medal

She has served at the following military installations:

Bolling Air Force Base, Washington DC
Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska
McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey
Ramstein Air Base, Germany
Sembach Air Base, Germany
Scott Air Force Base, Illinois
Yokota Air Base, Japan
